Dr Poornima Prabhakaran, PgDip & MSc. Epidemiology graduate, New Delhi
“As an External Student and a full-time mom with two kids -1 and 5 years old when I started off, it has been the most enriching 3 years of my life from both a family and academic point of view…. I wish the External System all the very best on the joyous occasion of completing 150 years !!!”
Miss Alia Aziz ur Rehman, LLB graduate, Karachi, Pakistan
“Life as an External student was just one roller coaster ride! The whole academic year would pass by but the week before exams were due, it was as if one was never going to be ready! Find myself more confident and sure of myself - and moving on up!”
Mrs Murgia Tiziana, BSc Politics and International Relations graduate, Italy
“Although I studied through the degree all by myself whilst working and with two children, I always knew that I could rely on University guidance and help if necessary. The possibility to study when I actually could, helped me and encouraged me throughout the three years.”
Ms Zainab Laila, Diploma in Finance graduate, Mumbai, India
“I had an amazing time all throughout my diploma course. Even though we never got a chance to go to the LSE campus it still felt amazing when I got my diploma. Professionally it has helped me a lot. I got a deeper understanding of finance, a stream which I was initially scared to venture into. Personally the diploma added a lot to my self worth and the people I met while studying with the External System are people I'll treasure forever.”
Mr Ally Aubdoolah, BSc graduate, Mauritius
“It was a fantasctic moment of my life. I strived hard to achieve success in education. The degree allowed me to consolidate my post of education officer in the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.”
Mrs Margaret Morris, BA History graduate, UK
“I studied in London at what was then the North Western Polytechnic. My life was not that different from an internal student at the University of London. I have memories of spending most Mondays when I didn't have college lectures or tutorials in the Senate House library. And because I had friends at the Colleges of the University of London I was able to attend some of the social events.”
Mr Hakoma Siamatanga, MSc Health Systems Management graduate, Zambia
“Immediately after my graduation at the Barbican Centre in London, I received a letter from a Health Management Information Officer at a rural hospital, which offerred me a new position as a Planning and Development Manager covering the Mazabuka District.”
Mr Tim Dixon, LLB graduate, Dublin, Ireland
“At the Cambridge revision course in 2001, I was struck by the support students gave each other and the sense that there was an attempt to open a previously closed door… I was accepted by the King's Inn as a student and subsequently called to the Bar in Ireland. I am now practising as a Barrister. This is the realisation of a 30 year-old dream.”
Mrs Cherry-Ann Da Costa-Carter, MSc Infectious Diseases graduate, New York, USA
“You always seem to think that you know a lot until you learn something more. Then you realize that you did not know so much after all. That's how I felt as an external student of the University of London. I learned things that I never knew existed even though I had been a Clinical Laboratory Practitioner for years. It was hard work, especially with a full-time job and a young family but I was worth it. The more you learned the more you wanted to go further.”
