About us

The University of London is one of the world’s leading universities, internationally recognised as a centre of excellence.

We are unique in our provision of worldwide access to University of London degrees of the highest standards.

Worldwide access

Through the University of London International Programmes, formerly the University of London External System (find out more about our renaming),  the University of London has made accessible its degree programmes to students all over the world since 1858. It has over 50,000 students in every corner of the globe studying on more than 100 different programmes.

Opportunity

Our global footprint and flexible study method has enabled students to study wherever they live - on remote islands, in cities and even in prison.

Our students have won Nobel prizes, governed countries and written great works of literature. They also work at all levels in the legal profession as lawyers, barristers and judges, in education, in finance and banking and as business leaders and managers.

International reputation

As a family of 19 world-class Colleges and acclaimed Institutes, the University of London has an international reputation for academic distinction in teaching and research.

Our new name

In 2010 we changed our name to the University of London International Programmes to better describe ourselves in the 21st century.

One critical thing has not changed – we continue to offer worldwide access to university education of consistent high standards. Our students achieve exactly the same standard of internationally recognised qualification as those who attend the University itself.
