‘A few years ago when I was awarded my professional accountancy and financial analysis qualifications, I told myself that it was about the end of my academic studies. It would be too big a commitment to take another challenge along with a busy working life. But very soon, I realized that learning is actually a lifetime business. An MBA became my next target.
Studying the Royal Holloway, The University of London MBA on a part time basis in Hong Kong was no easier than the on-campus course as there is no compromise on its assessment standards. Thanks to the strong link and support from London and the local coordination with HKU SPACE in delivering the course, I managed to complete it, luckily and proudly, with distinction in 2 years’ time. I also changed my job during the period. I now work as a senior manager with the Prudential Assurance Company Limited in Hong Kong The lesson to me is: when you know what exactly you want, and you are determined, everything becomes achievable.
During these 2 years, what I found most valuable is the group of friends I earned. Therefore, I and some of other graduates/ students founded the Hong Kong chapter of the alumni association in 2008, aiming to build a closer network with all graduates and students not only in Hong Kong but all over the world.
In my MBA study, we came across topics such as globalization and competitive advantages. We learnt how to take advantage of these conditions or environment to do business or manage a multinational company. But I believe the insight for us is more than that. We have also learnt to understand different cultures and people; and to respect them. We have not only learnt how to make a company grow, but also how to contribute to growing our society. My view is that knowledge transforms how we live, how we interact with others, how we create and how we lead., so if knowledge is power, then an important idea that I have taken away is that greater power comes with greater responsibilities.’
