‘I feel that I have a better understanding of cultural issues, and the potential conflicts these can cause. And most importantly it has broadened my horizons and given me the opportunity to immerse myself in a whole new range of books, art and film.’
Sallyanne's love affair with Spain started with studying the Spanish language when her children were small. She found her studies so absorbing that she continued when back at work full-time as a science teacher – moving on to take a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies by distance learning with the University of London External System.
‘The course helped me become a much more confident person. I feel that I have a better understanding of cultural issues, and the potential conflicts these can cause. And most importantly it has broadened my horizons and given me the opportunity to immerse myself in a whole new range of books, art and film. Near the top of my to do list is to visit Latin America to see the places that featured in my studies.’
