The University of London Convocation was established by Charter in 1858 and flourished in the early years with many graduates playing an active role in Alumni Relations and making valuable contributions to the affairs of the University.
However, as the colleges of the University became more independent and self governing many established their own alumni offices and encouraged students to affiliate themselves to the college on their graduation. This activity led to a much less dominant convocation group and highlighted the need for the University to consider the future of alumni activities.
In September 2003, it was decided that graduates who completed their degrees as internal students should join their college alumni association and convocation be abolished. However, at this time external graduates were not permitted to join a college group and were therefore left without a representative body.
Please send us your memories of the University of London International Programmes.
In January 2006, an Alumni Association was created to represent graduates who had completed their University of London degree externally. Today, over 12000 graduates are active members of this association. If you completed your degree externally and you are not currently a member, please sign up.
Members of the University of London External Alumni Association will receive an alumni newsletter biannually, receive invitations to alumni events worldwide and will be eligible for benefits and services that have been negotiated with companies worldwide.
