Campaign Information

From 1 August 2008 the UK government committed £200 million for participating Higher Education institutions to enable them to encourage philanthropy amongst their alumni and friends. It is hoped that as a result of the scheme (which will last for three years, until 31 July 2011), charitable income received by Higher Education institutions in England will increase, as will the numbers of alumni supporting the institutions where they studied.

The University of London is participating in this scheme and the University of London International Programmes is set to directly benefit from any funds raised by its alumni. £1.35 million is available to the University in the form of matched funds as a direct response to the University's fundraising achievements.

The matching ratio the University of London will be working to is an additional £1 for every £2 raised.

The University of London International Programmes has launched a fundraising campaign within the boundaries of the matched funding scheme to mark its 150th Anniversary which took place in 2008. This scheme seeks to raise funds to:

The Higher Education and Funding Council of England (HEFCE), the body that administers the matched funding scheme will pay the match in arrears each year up until 2011. Over the next few months the Alumni Relations and Development Office will be working to create the criteria for scholarships for new students and alumni and developing new initiatives that all funds received (including the match) will support. It is hoped that scholarships will be available in 2010 and we will notify you when details of how to apply are finalised.

Alumni and students of the University of London International Programmes will benefit from donations that the University of London receives through this campaign and we hope this will encourage alumni and friends to donate.
