I did say it would get better. And I wasn’t wrong. In the beautiful and historic setting of the House of Commons, alumni and University of London International Programmes staff gathered for a dinner in the Members’ Dining Room. This alumni event sold out in a matter of days, with a long waiting list.

Many couldn’t quite believe they were there. Sponsored by alumna Gisela Stuart MP (LLB, 1991), we had graduates who completed in 1951 right up to 2012. It was a wonderful spectrum of people, many of whom had made the special trip UK alumni eventdown to London just for the occasion.

The first such event for our UK alumni, Gordon Taylor OBE (BSc Economics 1969), CEO of the Professional Footballers’ Association, was our guest speaker - his speech had guests laughing with tales from his football player days, while also celebrating the common thread of their University of London degree.

How did the alumni describe the event? "A truly memorable evening", "a fantastic setting", "excellent food and company" were just some of the comments received. Just what we were hoping for! Alumnus Adrian Cosker (BSc Economics, 1984) summed up the evening: "Thanks for organising the event: it was perfect, and I met some really nice and interesting people and had a really great time! Good speeches too."

UK alumni eventIt really was a great opportunity for us to host something for alumni here in the capital and it seems that we did not disappoint. As we left and stood under the bright lights of Big Ben, it struck 11pm and I was sure a wonderful time was had by all.
