A board-styled social bookmarking site and app, Pinterest (it rhymes with "interest") lets you "organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web".

According to its mission statement, the goal of the site is to "connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting. We think that a favorite book, toy, or recipe can reveal a common link between two people. With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interests."

The site, which launched in March 2010, has already clocked up over 10 million users and secured a spot on Time’s 50 best websites of 2011. Not surprising, then, that the influential media outlet, Mashable, has called it "social media's rising star". Mashable features a number of interesting articles about the site, including "Can Pinterest Help Your Job Search?"

To join Pinterest you need to Request an invite or sign up for the waiting list which usually takes just a few days.
