I have just accepted a job offer as Purchasing Officer at one of Malaysia's largest retailer, Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd. Having a degree from the University of London definitely boosted my self-confidence when applying for jobs. I felt that it gave me an extra edge over the other candidates, when employers are aware that I have a degree from a prestigious university.
The University of London is famed for the quality of its programmes. It provides a real education – not just completing of assignments but a learning process which requires a comprehensive understanding and firm grasp of the issues. Cost-wise, this is one of the most affordable foreign university programmes available in Malaysia.
A student taking the Economics and Management degree would read subjects which are relevant to the analyses of real-life economic issues and management practices. Besides text books, further readings have to be undertaken extensively.
The best thing about my course was being in touch with contemporary issues. I attended classes at HELP College of Arts & Technology and found the lecturers on my course to be truly engaging personalities who have broadened my mind and propelled me to delve into areas of knowledge which I would not have thought to venture into otherwise.
The degree itself is challenging as each subject is as broad as it is deep. One needs to dedicate time and effort into the total understanding of the subject. With the amount of readings required, good time management is an imperative study skill to attain good results.
My advice is to select a course which you have a true interest in, instead of following the “trend”, or the crowd. Find out about what you will face when you embark on your tertiary education – for example, if you are studying at a local college, find out about the study environment, the campus facilities, the total approximate costs, the course structure, and so many other aspects which will affect your study experience. Go all out to ensure that you will enjoy the entire once-in-a-lifetime experience.
