The School of Advanced Study, University of London, was established in 1994. It brings together several internationally-renowned research institutes to form the UK's national centre for the promotion of research in the humanities and social sciences.

The Refugee Law Initiative (RLI) was founded in 2010 and is based at the Human Rights Consortium of the School of Advanced Study. This institute brings together multidisciplinary expertise to provide a national and international collaborative centre for the support, promotion and dissemination of academic and policy work in human rights.

The School of Advanced Study currently offers the MA Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies through online and flexible learning.

The RLI is the only academic centre in the UK to concentrate specifically on international refugee law. It provides a national focal point for the promotion of research in this area.

The centre combines the shared interests of refugee law scholars and practitioners, facilitating collaboration between academics and non-academics and achieving policy impact at a national and international level.
