Institute of Education welcomes Citizenship Education report

The Institute of Education (IOE) has welcomed the government's recent Education and Skills Select Committee report on Citizenship Education (published on 8 March). The report's recommendations endorse the work undertaken in this area at the IOE.

Dr Hugh Starkey, Programme Director for the IOE's Master's degree in Citizenship Education, commented: "The Committee calls for more trained teachers of citizenship able to address controversial topics and issues of human rights, equalities and diversity with their students. These are central to all our courses on Citizenship Education and our research agenda."
