Dr Mary Stiasny

Dr Mary Stiasny PhD MA(Ed) BSc OBE

Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and Chief Executive of the University of London International Programmes

Throughout her career, Dr Mary Stiasny has worked tirelessly to both deliver and promote quality accessible education across the world.

Prior to becoming Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Dr Stiasny provided strategic direction and leadership at the Institute of Education, in her capacity as Pro-Director with responsibility for Learning, Teaching and International.

Working life for Dr Stiasny began as a secondary school teacher in West London. She then joined Goldsmiths College, where she was involved in initial teacher education, becoming Director of PGCE and Deputy Head of the Department of Educational Studies. This was followed by a move to Oxford Brookes University, where she was appointed Deputy Head of the School of Education. She then returned to London, to become Head of the School of Education and Training at the University of Greenwich. Following this, she spent four years at the British Council as Director of Education and Training before joining the Institute of Education.

Dr Stiasny’s practical and strategic experience in education spans across a wide range of roles, including providing consultancy for a number of educational projects that have attracted external funding, and as an external examiner.

Craig O'Callaghan

Craig O’Callaghan

Director of Operations and Deputy Chief Executive

Craig O’Callaghan leads on the operational service delivery to our 50,000+ students across the world, a community which he has seen grow from strength-to-strength, since joining the International Programmes more than 30 years ago.

Craig is responsible for managing our people as well as the operational, technological, legal and financial aspects of the organisation, in addition to delivering on strategic planning. With the continuous expansion of the International Programmes, Craig focuses on the ongoing changes and improvements that underpin the delivery of a much enhanced service for our students and Lead College stakeholders. In doing so, Craig continues to draw on his wealth of experience with us, including his former role as Director of Student Services and Business Transformation Programme.

As Director of Student Services and Business Transformation, Craig successfully led on the modernisation of our IT infrastructure, which has been designed to further improve the management of our student lifecycle, encompassing a range of services from first enquiries through to admissions and registrations to assessment and graduation. A Change Management Programme also followed, in which Craig led on updating and changing the way we deliver our services to students to make it more immediate and relevant for them.

Craig is also an alumnus of the University of London, having been awarded an MSc in Politics and Administration from Birkbeck College; he also holds a BA in Humanities.

Mike Winter OBE

Mike Winter OBE

Director of Global Engagement

Mike leads on the development and delivery of our global engagement strategy: building local and regional knowledge, and generating networks and partnerships to drive sustained long-term development. This comprises close engagement with governments, funding agencies, teaching institutions, alumni, the corporate sector, professional bodies and related organisations in countries around the world.

Mike has 36 years’ experience in international cultural relations and educational collaboration. As the UCL Institute of Education (IOE's) first Director of International Affairs, Mike was responsible for the development and implementation of the IOE’s Internationalisation Strategy. This encompassed international partnerships, promotions, scholarships, internationalisation of the curriculum, transnational provision, staff and student mobility, alumni networks, as well as international research, consultancy and knowledge exchange. He was also the IOE's institutional lead for the Erasmus+ Programme.

Prior to the IOE, Mike held a variety of British Council roles in the English language, education, arts and science fields. His postings took him to Turkey, Brazil, France and Japan, where he was Director of Education and awarded an OBE for his services to international education collaboration.

Gerard Kelly, Director of Finance and Business Planning

Director of Finance and Business Planning

Gerry has responsibility for operational and strategic finance activities. Operationally these activities include the administration of student fees, financial control, budgeting, management accounting and financial reporting. His strategic role involves financial planning and analysis, performance evaluation, investment appraisal, managing risk and decision support to the senior leadership team. A key part of his role is also to support and manage financial and contractual relationships.

Prior to joining the International Academy in 2010, Gerry spent the early part of his career in banking and finance. For over 20 years he was a finance director and practicing accountant across a range of commercial sectors working with both private and public companies.

Gerry is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. In addition he holds BSc degrees from UMIST and Oxford Brookes University.

Pamela Roberts

Pamela Roberts

Director of Student Recruitment and Enrolments

Pamela Roberts, a Chartered Manager, has extensive management and leadership experience. She is responsible for processing student applications and producing initial offers, as well as student registration and continuing registration.

Pamela and her team play a pivotal role in liaising with institutions, and managing many of the components associated with the student life-cycle. This includes publishing, procurement, production and dispatch of student learning resources and study materials.

Having worked with the International Programmes for more than 30 years, Pamela has extensive experience across the student lifecycle.
