Short courses: Introduction

Short courses - Key

EMFSS: Economics, Management, Finance and Social Sciences; academic leadership from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

RVC: Developed by the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London.

Royal Holloway: Developed by Royal Holloway, University of London.

We are continually expanding our short course programme to offer busy professionals a flexible alternative to full-time on campus study. Short courses are ideal for building up Continuing Professional Development hours – a requirement for membership of many professional associations and regulatory bodies.

By taking a short course you will have the opportunity to sample a discrete learning unit from a larger programme. In most cases you can also use short courses to progress to the related qualification. This means that by taking a short course you can gauge the extent of the commitment required before applying for a full programme of study, should you wish to progress to a degree or diploma awarded by the University.

Short courses - Undergraduate

Almost 100 units on EMFSS programmes are now being made available as short courses.

It is also possible to take a number of modules from other undergraduate programmes as an Occasional student. In this case, please refer to the host degree for availability. The programmes which allow Occasional students are those in Classical Studies, Computing and Information Systems, and Law.  Please note that it will not be possible to use modules taken as an Occasional student to progress to an undergraduate degree or diploma.

Short courses - Postgraduate

We also have a range of 240-hour, 50-hour and 35-hour short courses developed by the Royal Veterinary College for those working in the field of animal health and/or meat or dairy production. Please note, however, that the 35-hour short courses offered by the Royal Veterinary College may not used for progression to a degree or diploma.

In addition to the modules offered by the RVC there are also individual modules offered as short courses from other postgraduate programmes - To find a suitable short course please visit the postgraduate programme area of the site.

Once you register for a short course will receive a certificate of registration. If you successfully complete the assessment for a short course, you will be awarded a certificate of achievement which indicates the number of notional study hours required for the particular short course.

Fees and application details vary from one short course to another. Please see the web page of the host degree of your chosen short course for further details.
