Please note that 2010 is the final year that applications and registrations will be accepted for the Spanish and Latin American Studies programme and that final examinations will take place in 2015. Therefore, if you are interested in applying for this programme, you must submit your application form by September/October 2010 and if you are accepted you will need to register by 31 December 2010.

Programme aims

The BA combines the study of the Spanish language with aspects of Spanish and Latin American culture from the medieval period to the present day. You'll gain skills in reading, writing and speaking Spanish. Optional units include art, film, and political and historical writing. Emphasis is also placed on ways of reading texts, in order to develop your analytical and critical skills.

The programme has been developed by the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Birkbeck, a 5* faculty - the top UK rating. It is a research-active department with expertise covering a range of specialisations to include language, literary and cultural studies, and the visual arts. The intellectual and personal qualities which degree-level work in the humanities develops are in demand in the workplace. The degree will prepare you for many careers including education, public services, management and business.

Flexible study at a reasonable cost

You have 3-8 years to complete the BA. The total fee payable to the University is £2,914. Please note that this figure does not reflect any annual fee increase and assumes completion in the minimum study period permitted. Suitably qualified candidates may apply for exemption from any of the Foundation units of the degree.
