PS3105 Contemporary political theory: liberalism and its critics
May only be chosen by students who registered prior to 30 November 2011. To be examined for the last time in 2013, except for a re-sit in 2014.

81 Modern political thought or 130 Introduction to modern political thought or 114 Democratic politics and the State
The schools of thought covered in this subject are liberalism, particularly John Rawls' egalitarian liberalism; communitarianism, as articulated by Michael Sandel and Michael Walzer; libertarianism, as articulated by Robert Nozick. Specific topics will include the ideas of rights and freedoms, as well as the question of distributive justice amongst different cultural and ethnic groups, different countries, and across generations.
