7 Progression within the programme
7.1 (GR)
Within the limits given below a student may decide when they are examined, the number of modules attempted each year and the order in which modules are examined. A student does not have to be examined every year.

Students registered for the Postgraduate Certificate
7.2
In any one year in which they decide to study and be assessed, students registered for the Postgraduate Certificate may attempt a minimum of one module and a maximum of three modules.
7.3 (GR)
There is no automatic progression between the Postgraduate Certificate and the Diploma. Satisfactory completion of the Certificate does not in itself guarantee entry to the Diploma. In order to proceed to the Diploma, a student registered must normally successfully complete all the prescribed certificate modules at the required level and receive a recommendation from the Examiners that they may proceed.
7.4
In order to be able to progress from the Postgraduate Certificate to the Postgraduate Diploma, students must pass modules to the value of at least 60 credits.
7.5 (GR)
A student who is allowed to progress from the Postgraduate Certificate to the Postgraduate Diploma will be credited with 60 credits.
7.6 (GR)
Previous attempts at the examinations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Educational and Social Research will count towards the number of attempts permitted at modules of the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational and Social Research.
7.7
A student who transfers to the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational and Social Research on the basis that they have satisfied the entrance requirements for the degree will not receive the award of the Postgraduate Certificate under any circumstances.
Students registered for the Postgraduate Diploma
7.8
In any one year in which they decide to study and be assessed, students registered for the Postgraduate Diploma may attempt a minimum of one module and a maximum of three modules.
7.9
In exceptional circumstances, a student may attempt a maximum of four modules in any one year, at the discretion of the Programme Director.
7.10 (GR)
There is no automatic progression between the Postgraduate Certificate and the Diploma. Previous attempts at the examinations for the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational and Social Research will count towards the number of attempts permitted at modules of the MRes in Educational and Social Research.
7.14
A student who transfers to the MRes in Educational and Social Research on the basis that they have satisfied the entrance requirements for the degree will not receive the award of the Postgraduate Diploma under any circumstances.
Students registered for the MRes
7.15
In any one year in which they decide to study and be assessed, students registered for the MRes may attempt a minimum of one module and a maximum of three modules and the dissertation.
7.16
In exceptional circumstances, a student may attempt a maximum of four modules and the dissertation in any one year, at the discretion of the Programme Director.
Progression from an individual module

7.17 (GR)
Successful completion by formal assessment of an individual module or modules taken on a stand-alone basis may be taken into account for admission to a related or unrelated certificate, diploma or degree. Credit for the individual module(s) may also be considered provided that application is made within three years of the completion of the relevant course or courses. Neither admission nor credit is automatic.
7.18 (GR)
A student who does not successfully complete the formal assessment for an individual module will be permitted to proceed to a certificate, diploma or degree provided they satisfies the entrance requirements for that certificate, diploma or degree.
7.19 (GR)
All applications for progression from an individual module to a certificate, diploma or degree will be considered on an individual basis and permission to progress, and, where appropriate, to receive credit, will be at the discretion of the University
