Some advice when choosing an institution

We have prepared a check list for you to use when choosing an institution. It is your responsibility to ensure that you choose an institution that can offer the level of support you need at an appropriate price.

A quality network for local learning support - We officially recognise institutions that offer study support to students of the University of London International Programmes within our quality assurance framework. Institutions offering support within our framework are known as recognised centres and have been awarded either Affiliate or Registered Centre status. Affiliate Centres have demonstrated a long-term commitment to quality of teaching, support and administration. Recognised centre status applies to specific programmes on certain campuses.

If you decide to enrol for additional support at an institution you must still apply and register with us. We advise you to wait for confirmation from the University that you are eligible for the course of your choice before enrolling at an institution and paying tuition fees.

Studying at a local institution - If you study at a local institution you should expect to spend time in lectures and seminars, spread out over the study period. Some of this time may be spent in small groups of students, where you will be encouraged to discuss with the tutor or lecturer questions raised in lectures and go through assignments and exercises. You may also be asked to give class presentations. You will also have access to resources at the institution such as computers or libraries and social facilities. Support may be provided full-time or part-time. You should check that the support offered fits with your schedule.

Correspondence or online learning through an institution - You may be provided with extra study materials, taped lectures, the opportunity to write assignments and receive feedback or participate in online discussions.
